MODERN ARTISTS GALLERY 2018

Good art, it always seems to me, has to reflect with uncompromising honesty the  personality and character traits of the artist. Marcia Scott is a prime example of an artist who does just that projecting her optimism, warmth and generosity of spirit in her vibrant and life-affirming paintings.

MICHAEL SANDLE RA FEBRUARY 2017

'The most important tool the artist fashions through constant practice is faith in the ability to produce miracles' – Mark Rothko

Hotel Elephant Gallery presented their first show exclusively dedicated to the paintings of the artist Marcia Scott, graduate of St Martin’s, who has recently shown in New York at Berry Campbell.
In her abstract paintings she explores the versatility of gloss enamel paint, to create vibrant and dynamic works that have been likened to musical scores in their interplay between pigment and texture.

The saturated backgrounds are prepared with pure colour and then worked on in a process based technique of pouring and dripping to create flowing shapes reflective of her mentor and Step Father Frank Bowling.O.B.E. R.A.  Marcia is the daugher of Peter Scott and Rachel Bowling

Having recently had shows in New York and Louisiana, the exhibition included three paintings from the University of Louisiana’s solo show ‘We Are All Related’. The exhibition also included works of varying size,, the largest being ‘Blue Dragon,’ an unseen painting at 14 foot wide. Each individual piece demonstrates the artist’s distinctive visual approach, in which the viewer is invited to explore the build up of glossy, sensuous surfaces!

************

'Marcia Scott declares she is on a journey with paint, to celebrate individuality in the face of the machine ‘I feel like a modern day explorer. My work is a search for authenticity; to find a road to personal freedom.’
Within her painting she deals with issues such as the relationship between complexity and simplicity, absence and presence,and abstraction and figuration. These issues and their subsequent exploration through geometry, composition and the materiality of paint, go on to explore the myriad relationships in the world in which we live in, attempting to develop a new language in paint.
“Scott’s work is breathtaking, its scale means that you almost fall into them creating new worlds that you can breathe in, be subsumed by.
It is thrilling to be exhibiting her work.” Isabel H Langtry, Principal HSoA   Hampstead School of Art;
