'Ray Church brings the classical pottery of Ancient Greece up to date with satirical social commentary and urban imagery’
THE INSPIRATION FOR MY WORK CENTRES ON THE AESTHETICS OF CLASSICAL GREEK POTTERY BOTH FORMALLY AND FIGURATIVELY. THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE IS TO APPROPRIATE THIS STYLE AND ALLOW NEW IDEAS TO DEVELOP THROUGH USE OF PLAYFUL DIALOG BETWEEN THE CONTEMPORARY AND THE CLASSICAL.
I LIKE THE NOTION OF DRAWING PARALLELS BETWEEN HISTORICAL NARRATIVES AND 21ST CENTURY SOCIO-POLITICAL SITUATIONS AND THE AMUSING SUBVERSIVE IMAGERY CONCEIVED FROM THIS COLLABORATION OF THE TIMES.
